Dr. Justice Sambuddha Chakrabarti, was born on May 11, 1958. Passed the Higher Secondary Examination in Humanities in First Division and was awarded "Certificate of Merit" by Ministry of Education, Government of India. Graduated with Honours in History from Presidency College, Kolkata. Obtained First Class in M.A. in History in 1982 from the University of Calcutta. Awarded LL.B. degree by the same university in 1986. Awarded Ph.D (Arts) in History by the University of Calcutta in 1990. Contributed numerous articles to various academic publications including some scholarly anthologies. Has published a revised version of the dissertation for Ph.D. degree. Had authored two text books on History jointly with Late Prof. Pratul Chandra Gupta. Was a regular contributor to various journals and newspapers and reviewed books regularly. Is a Life Member of Bangiya Sahitya Parishad and a member of Asiatic Society and other institutions. Practised in civil, criminal and constitutional matters. Was the Senior Advocate for the State of West Bengal and held the post of Lawyer-in-charge of the University of Calcutta. Was an empanelled Advocate for the Employee's Provident Fund Organisation. Appeared for a number of educational authorities and institutions including the University of Calcutta, Visva Bharati, West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences, Gour Banga University, National University of Juridical Sciences. Was a Guest Lecturer at the Department of Law, University of Calcutta for some time and South Calcutta Law College. Was elevated to the Bench of the High Court at Calcutta as a permanent Judge on September 13, 2010.
